About the Trail

Zingela Trail Run is a two day Trail Running event, based on the banks of the mighty Tugela River in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Held at the most beautiful time of year to experience the African bush, you can expect warm, blue sky days and crisp, chilly evenings and early mornings. The Zingela Trail Run makes use of a trail network of game paths, within thousands of hectares of arid, thorny bushveld, riverbanks, and cliff-top vistas. The area is teeming with game, including giraffe, nyala, kudu, impala, blue wildebeest, warthog and ostrich. The terrain is varied, but is predominantly undulating, rocky game paths, dotted with tall standing aloes and acacia’s.

The Event

Day 1:

21km - with a 10km half-distance option.

Hippo Run for the kiddies on day one, start time: 8:00am (4km).

Day 2:

16km - with an a 8km half-distance option.

New! River Crossing Adventure.

A highlight of the weekend is our recently introduced river crossing challenge. All participants will get the chance to cross the Tugela river on inflatable rafts or kayaks and explore newly opened trails on the far bank. Its a fun, safe, and thrilling addition that adds a whole new dimension to your trail running experience!

The Hippo Run For Kiddies:

While the grown-ups are on the trails, kids can enjoy their own morning of fun with the Hippo Run - a 4km trail around the prominent “Hippo” koppie. Suitable for ages 5 and up, this supervised adventure includes a refreshment station, marshals along the route, and plenty to keeps the little legs moving and minds entertained until lunchtime. On Sunday morning, kiddies will be invited to join a supervised nature walk, plus other exciting entertainment throughout the weekend.
